Who can take part in St Agnes Carnival?
The simple answer is anybody! We accept entries from large floats, walking groups in themed costumes or individuals in fancy dress.
Can children take part in the procession?
Yes, however an adult must accompany individual children under 14. For group entries from a family or organisation, a sensible ratio of adults to children must be applied.
Can we collect money for our own charity?
No, all of the monies collected on the carnival route must be handed over to the carnival committee. Monies collected will be used to fund subsequent carnivals.
Does the carnival committee have to agree the design of the entry?
No, design of your entry is your responsibility.
If it’s your first entry, then don’t be over ambition or make it too large!
If you are using a vehicle, remember that some of the build will need to be done on the day, and that takes time!
Does the committee supply the vehicles?
No, responsibility for sourcing a vehicle remains with the entrant.
Before carnival day, you must contact your insurer to gain appropriate insurance - you will need to notify them of the use to which you intend to put the vehicle for carnival day.
The police may ask to see insurance documents during the procession.
Will there be refreshments and toilet facilities in the carnival field and on the route?
Yes, there will be a refreshment van and temporary toilets in the field.
There will be toilets available on the route and multiple options for food and drink. Please check the route map nearer the day to find out more.
How will we know if the carnival is cancelled?
How are entries judged?
The carnival committee appoints independent judges.
The judges will be fully briefed and will award prizes as set out on the entry form. PLEASE NOTE: No entry can win more than one prize, except Best in Carnival.
All categories will be judged on the assembly field and along the procession route.
Is there parking available?
Yes, parking is available in one of the fields as you enter the village. The entrance is next to Mark Evan’s garage, along Penwinnick Road.
The field will be locked at 10pm, so please remember to collect your vehicle before then!
Can we stop during the parade to perform a routine?
Yes, there are designated areas for performances.
Please make sure that performances are kept within the allotted 3 minutes.
Please keep an eye on the parade ahead of you and make sure that you minimise gaps.
What happens next?
Please complete your entry form online. It must be received by 12 noon on Friday 31st July at the latest.
